Glass Care Q&A

Caring for your mirrors and shower doors is important and
easy to do.

Soap scum and hard water buildup can permanently etch the
glass used in your shower doors and for your mirrors. Easy
steps can prevent this.
The traditional cleaning methods work well. Rinse your
shower doors after each use with clean water and squeegy
or wipe dry with a soft towel. Clean your mirrors with a
non-streaking glass cleaner and a soft towel.
For cleaning mroe stubborn deposits, we recommend
Formula 409 Glass and Surface Cleaner or Cinch Streak Free
Multi-Surface Cleaner
to remove stains without harming the
finish of your metal hardware.

There are shortcuts available.

Helpful Hint #1 - Using an automotive product can help
protect your glass and make your life easier.
Rain-X glass
protectant applied to the interior of your shower door glass
(being very careful not to allow it on the metal hardware)
every 2-3 months will help to keep hard water deposits from
staining your glass.

Helpful Hint #2 - Do your mirrors fog over after a nice hot
shower? Of course, the nice Rain-X people make a solution
for this as well in their anti-fog treatment. However, if you
want to make something at home to achieve the same result,
read on. I bet, if you ask your mom, or her mom, how they
used to clean glass, you know, before the Internet and Tivo,
they would tell you vinegar and water. 2 oz vinegar in 1 qt of
warm water makes the perfect glass cleaner and it helps stop
fogging too. Just make sure not to use it on your Rain-X
treated surfaces as it will take the Rain-X off faster.
